To say that my boys are into Minecraft would be an understatement. They play it on their Xbox. They play it on the computer. They even love reading strategy guides and watching walk-throughs on YouTube. So it was no surprise that they wanted a Minecraft themed party for their 7th birthday.
One thing you need to know about me is that I’m not naturally creative. For birthday parties, I rely on the themed items that you can buy at your local party supply store. Guess what…there are no licensed party supplies for Minecraft at this point. No plates or napkins or cups or banners. Nothing. I was all on my own.
If your browse through Pinterest, you will find lots of fabulous ideas from some very creative people. But since most of the guests coming to our small party of family and friends had absolutely no idea what Minecraft even is, I wanted to keep it simple.
I decided to focus on some of the colors that are prominent in the game – green, black, dark blue, and aqua. I bought streamers in each of those colors and created a backdrop by covering the mirror behind our buffet, which served as our cake table.
Our table cloths were black and dark blue. Our plates, napkins, and cups were green and aqua. I managed to find green and blue chocolate candies as an extra little touch.
Since we were saving money by not buying licensed party supplies, we splurged a little on the cake. You can’t go into your local grocery store bakery and get a Minecraft cake either. I looked around and found a bakery that makes specialty cakes and they were able to make an awesome Minecraft cake for us.
That was more or less our Minecraft party. It was simple and our boys had a great time. But if you are feeling creative, here are some websites with fantastic ideas:
